Illumina and Ultima Genomics have each announced that they’ve been selected as sequencing providers for SG-INSIGHT, a 450,000-person cohort under Phase III of Singapore’s National Precision Medicine (NPM) program.
Illumina said Nov. 2 it will provide whole-genome sequencing services for the study at its genomics facility in Singapore.
Ultima said Nov. 2 its UG200 sequencing platform was selected as part of a consortium led by Singapore-based clinical laboratory Lucence, with Qiagen adding support for sample preparation and automation. Ultima will provide sequencing and genomic analysis.
How the sequencing work will be divided is unclear. Financial and other details were not disclosed.
Phase III of the Singapore project moves from healthy volunteers to patients, aiming to link genomic and health data to better understand disease and treatment response and to support the introduction of genetic screening in the public health care system.

Under Phase II, called PRECISE-SG100K, Illumina sequenced more than 100,000 genomes from healthy volunteers.
“Singapore is showing what the future of precision medicine can look like at national scale,” Illumina CEO Jacob Thaysen said in a statement.
