Swedish spatial biology startup Haga Bioscience and Imagenomix are collaborating on new approaches to biomarker discovery and validation.
Under a partnership announced Sept. 29, the companies aim to combine AI-based screening with targeted spatial mutation confirmation, with the goal of expanding access to mutation testing. Initial work will focus on a workflow for clinically actionable oncology mutations such as KRAS, EGFR and AKT, while the companies build a joint roadmap for future validation studies and broader scientific collaboration.
“Imagenomix detects actionable mutations directly from the H&E slide every patient already has. Pairing that with Haga Bio’s in situ confirmation in the same tissue gives us a path to bring precise mutation testing to far more patients, faster,” Heather Gustafson, senior director of program strategy at Imagenomix, said in a statement.
The collaboration is supported by Vinnova, Sweden’s Innovation Agency, through an initiative to strengthen international collaborations. Financial and other details were not disclosed.
New York-based Imagenomix predicts clinically actionable mutations from routine H&E pathology images. Founded in 2023, it is a spinout from New York University, cofounded by cancer researcher Matija Snuderl, among others.
Stockholm-based Haga Bio develops spatial assays that detect specific mutations in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples. In June, the company announced a $2.2 million in seed financing round.
