Twist Bioscience Fiscal Q3 Revenue Rises 23 Percent
The synthetic biology company raised its full-year revenue guidance, as AI-enabled drug discovery orders continued to grow.
Twist Bioscience said prior to the market open on Aug. 3 that its fiscal third quarter revenues rose 23 percent year over year.
The South San Francisco-based synthetic biology firm reported fiscal Q3 2026 revenue of $118.4 million, up from $96.1 million in fiscal Q3 2025, beating the consensus Wall Street estimate of $114.6 million.
DNA Synthesis and Protein Solutions revenue grew 39 percent year over year to $56.6 million from $40.8 million in fiscal Q3 2025. NGS Applications revenue grew 12 percent to $61.8 million from $55.3 million a year ago.
By end market, therapeutics revenue — which includes AI-enabled drug discovery — grew 49 percent year over year to $40.4 million. Diagnostics revenue grew 15 percent to $43.8 million. Academic and government revenue grew 32 percent to $15.5 million. Industry and applied revenue fell 6 percent to $5.7 million, and global supply partner revenue declined 1 percent to $12.9 million.

In morning trading on the Nasdaq, shares of Twist were up 7 percent at $98.33.
Twist also launched its “complex genes” product during the quarter following an early access period, during which it synthesized more than 1,800 complex genes across more than 100 orders, with a turnaround time of 12 days for the majority of orders.
The company’s net loss for the quarter was $35.1 million, or $.56 per share, compared to net income of $20.4 million, or $.33 per share, in fiscal Q3 2025, missing the consensus Wall Street estimate of $.18 loss per share. The prior-year quarter included a $48.8 million gain from the spinout of Atlas Data Storage.
Twist’s R&D expenses were $18.0 million, flat from the prior-year period. SG&A expenses rose 27 percent to $80.7 million from $63.4 million a year ago.
“We continued our pattern of strong growth, reporting our fourteenth consecutive quarter of growth and exceeding guidance,” CEO Emily Leproust said. “Well into our final quarter of the fiscal year, we remain confident in our trajectory.”
As of June 30, Twist had $117.4 million in cash and cash equivalents and $49.4 million in short-term investments.
Twist raised its full-year fiscal 2026 revenue guidance to $456 million to $457 million, representing growth of approximately 21 percent, from prior guidance of $442 million to $447 million. For fiscal Q4 2026, the company guided revenue of approximately $123 million to $124 million, growth of approximately 25 percent year over year at the midpoint.
